WESTERHAM BEEKEEPERS BEGINNERS' WINTER BEEKEEPING COURSE

As Education Officer and Training Apiary Manager I will be running a Beginners' Winter Beekeeping Course.

The course is for anyone interested in keeping bees.  If you are new to beekeeping it will give you a good overview of the craft.  If you have attended the training apiary during the summer the course aims to consolidate the practical knowledge you have acquired. 

Zoom sessions will run weekly for 10 weeks on a Tuesday evening from 7.30 to 9.00pm, starting Tuesday 26th January 2027 until Tuesday 30th March 2027. 

The cost of the course is £125.00.

Sessions will cover:-

  • Equipment including different hive types

  • Siting and setting up an apiary

  • Where to obtain bees

  • The beekeeping year

  • Inspections & handling techniques

  • Swarming – prevention & control

  • Basic bee biology

  • Pests & diseases including varroa & varroa resistance

  • Raising your own queens & colonies

  • Products of the hive
